Lightning Design Jams: the exercise that will solve all of your problems Inside Design Blog

jam design

The format of a jam is flexible to the problem that is being addressed . The moderator now takes the “sweet spot” solutions from the Effort/Impact scale and asks the team to come up with three actionable steps toward testing them. Here we use a simple effort/impact scale to determine which solutions are simple enough to try right away, which are more effort and should be added to a project backlog, and which perhaps shouldn’t be addressed at all. The moderator now gives each team member six dots and four minutes to vote on the solutions they think would best solve the HMW. The reason this is done without explanation is to avoid any personal criticisms.

Apparel and products for all needs!

Vegetables, and high pH fruits will need added acid to safely preserve them at a pH below 4.6, so be sure to follow a tested recipe. Making jam is incredibly easy these days, and there’s no reason to settle for lack luster grocery store preserves when you can have your own homemade jam bursting with all the flavors of the season. It’s important for the moderator to tell the team members here that we’re aiming for quantity over quality—we’ll keep curating for later steps.

Frequently asked questions about Jam Design Inc

That said, blackberries are high pectin fruits with a good bit of natural sugar, and usually you’ll need more sugar than that to make jam set. Canning jars make the process much more dependable, as does powdered pectin, which will help even the stubbornest low pectin fruits to set into silky homemade jam. Now you have a clear overview of which high-impact solutions can be tested very quickly (in the yellow sweet spot on the top left), and which high-impact solutions will take more effort (top right). The moderator should now quickly mark all sticky notes in the sweet spot with a contrasting dot so we can identify them later. Sun Jam is another technique that thickens jam without extended cooking.

Structure and discipline create freedom

jam design

Make sure there’s enough space for a good number of sticky notes in each half. Citric acid powder is a neutral alternative that won’t add extra flavors to the jam. One tablespoon of bottled lemon juice is equal to 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid. Beyond these terms, if you intend to can the jam to make it shelf stable, you’ll need to understand the basics of water bath canning. Canning is optional, and it’s perfectly fine to make a refrigerator or freezer jam for short term storage. People have been making jam at home for hundreds of years, long before the advent of canning jars and convenient boxed pectin.

The calcium water is added along with the fruit, and the powdered pectin is mixed into the sugar to distribute it so it doesn’t clump when added. The sugar and pectin are added together at the end, and then the jam in returned to a boil for 1 minute before removing it from the heat. Beyond these basic jam making ingredients, you’ll sometimes see the addition of things like chia seeds, cornstarch, arrow root and other artificial thickeners. Recipes that include these ingredient’s aren’t actually “jam” in a technical sense, though they do result in a thickened fruit spread.

The process for making jam with added pectin is a lot faster, and usually you’re done start to finish in less than 10 minutes. There’s a reason many modern cooks choose to add a convenient box of pectin rather than slow cook homemade jam. Adding additional acidity is optional for most jams, as many fruits have plenty of natural acidity on their own. Some jams specifically required added acidity to ensure they’re below a pH of 4.6, so check the recipe to see if it’s truly optional.

A good guiding principle is that the action steps to test out the idea should be able to be completed in a timeframe of 1-2 weeks. Once the 5 minutes are up, everybody sticks their ideas on the surface (wall, whiteboard, whatever) as fast as possible, ideally within one minute. People should write one note per sticky note and pile them up in front of them as they’re writing. Pomona’s pectin often requires a specific recipe, as it’s trickier to get the proportions right. They’re not safe for canning (even if the recipe tells you otherwise), and they have a very different texture than a true pectin thickened jam.

The moderator needs to be very proactive at this step, as it is the only one that has a tendency to open up discussion. The moderator will now take each solution one by one and add them to the effort/impact scale. Now that you have a list of solutions that should solve the most important problem/s, it’s important to know how much effort is required to execute the solutions. Now, the moderator is going to rewrite the top-voted problem in the form of a challenge to help bring out solutions from all team members. The times we’ve suggested in the exercise are more of a guideline and may only be relevant to the first time you run through it. For larger groups (or tackling multiple problems) all the steps can take up to 1.5 hours.

Learn the basics of how to make jam and you’ll be able to make just about any variety of fruit jam imaginable. This is the most challenging exercise of the whole Jam since many participants won’t be confident of their drawing/sketching skills as well as the time pressure factor. As a facilitator, you should ensure them that any sketches are appreciated and encourage them to be as creative as possible. To prepare and make sure we enter Crazy 8's exercise feeling confident and comfortable, the facilitator should give participants 15 minutes to think and write down important notes, features, etc for Crazy 8’s. Based on the list of Q&A above, the Facilitator now asks everyone to write down questions starting with “How Might We” (or HMW for short).

Making jam at home is simple, and mostly just involves cooking fruit and sugar until it thickens. The process is somewhat different if you’re making jam without pectin, as compared to quick jam with added boxed pectin. Beyond natural pectin within fruits, there are a number of different types of pectin available for making homemade jam. Different types of pectin have different instructions, and won’t set if you add things in the wrong order. Be sure you have the right type of pectin for your recipe, or that you know how to alter the recipe to use the pectin you have on hand. I make a delicious blackberry jam without added pectin using 1 part sugar and 5 parts fruit, and it sets beautifully.

Basically, cook them just long enough to heat them through and you’ll have a stiff jam. Beyond just ensuring that the jam is acidic enough for preservation, a lower pH actually helps activate the pectin. Commercial pectin actually contains citric acid as well, to ensure a good set. Honey and maple are also good options, and will both flavor and set jams just like white sugar. I don’t recommend artificial sweeteners, as they behave differently than sugar.

Full House Actors You May Not Know Passed Away

She was also a cohost on ABC's "The View," but left after two seasons because balancing her work life and personal life was proving to be difficult. Cameron Bure has been married to Valeri Buri for more than 20 years and they have three children, daughter Natasha and sons Lev and Maksim. There were two things that Uncle Jesse was obsessed with — his hair and Elvis Presley. Of course, his priorities changed when he married Becky and the couple welcomed twins during season five. While it's not uncommon to hear of tragic endings for former child stars, it appears most of the cast of Full House, despite their life challenges, have come out on top.

In 1995, the twins starred in their first feature film, It Takes Two. Then, in 1998, the twins returned regularly to TV with their ABC sitcom Two of a Kind. They went on to star on ABC's So Little Time and Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action!

Untangling Taylor Swift’s and Matty Healy’s Songs About Each Other

Stephanie starts a relationship with Kimmy's younger brother Jimmy. Becky schedules Stephanie for a pelvic exam and turns out she has three viable eggs and can have a baby via surrogacy. Decides to quit practicing the guitar, realizing that he is not setting a good example. Although there was some tension between Joey and Jesse when they first move in with the Tanners, they quickly become good friends to the point where Jesse asks Joey to be his best man at his wedding. Even so, Joey's perceived immaturity does irritate Jesse at times.

Notable one-episode characters

During a crazy prank that Rusty started in "Secret Admirer," he misunderstood D.J.'s words and believed that she was romantically interested in him. This caused him to develop a brief crush on her, but quickly got over it when the other members of the family caught on to his prank in which he sent a letter intended to D.J. (without signing his name on it) that ends up being circulated to the rest of the family as well as Kimmy and Cindy, resulting in everyone mistakenly believing that someone else in the group was interested in them. He was last seen in "Stephanie Plays the Field," training for baseball with Stephanie. Irene Katsopolis (portrayed by Rhoda Gemignani in "The Return of Grandma", Yvonne Wilder in later appearances) is Jesse and Pam's mother, the wife of Nick Katsopolis, and maternal grandmother to D.J., Stephanie, and Michelle.

Not much is revealed about Nelson's background or family, aside from the fact that he is very rich, and often throws and attends big parties on yachts. Though in "Taking the Plunge," he mentions that his cousin, Regina – with whom he sets Joey up on a date – is visiting the United States from England. Toward the latter stages of his "relationship" with D.J., in "D.J.'s Choice," he gets into a "tug-of-war" with Viper to be D.J.'s boyfriend, to which she declines both boys.

Nicky and Alex Katsopolis

Full House is an American sitcom that aired for eight seasons on ABC, premiering Sept. 22, 1987 and ending May 23, 1995. Though the show never garnered much critical acclaim, it was a hit with audiences and even more so in syndicated reruns. Steve spent a lot of time at his girlfriend D.J.'s house and he was always eating something from their fridge. Barber has two children, Tate and Felicity, with ex-husband Jeremy Rytky.

Recurring characters

This time, the show centered around the eldest daughter, a recent widow, trying to raise her three boys in the same house, along with her sister, and best friend. Most of the original cast — including Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber, John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin — have been part of the show. Karen Penner (portrayed by Debbie Gregory) is the aunt of one of Michelle's friends as well as one of Danny's girlfriends over the course of the show. She met Danny at Michelle's circus party in the season 3 episode "The Greatest Birthday on Earth", where he instantly fell for her, inviting her to stay for the party and also giving her a heart-shaped balloon.

Tell Your Friends

Conversely, Stephanie was also a positive influence on Gia. During an unknown time when her parents had been through a divorce, Gia is shown as a cigarette-smoking, rebellious teen with horrible grades. She is two years older than Stephanie, as she was held back in school. Viewers learn (as of "Making Out is Hard to Do") that because of Stephanie, Gia has stopped smoking, became more respectful, improved her grades, and lost her inclination to play pranks on other people. Gia becomes the target of put downs at the hands of Michelle in much the same way as Kimmy is targeted by Stephanie. Over time, Michelle becomes quite creative with her insults.

Outside of certain excerpts in the opening title sequences, including Alamo Square Park's Painted Ladies, the only episode to have actually been taped in San Francisco was the first episode of season eight, "Comet's Excellent Adventure". There were also a few episodes which were filmed on-location elsewhere, most notably Hawaii in the season three premiere "Tanner's Island", and at Walt Disney World for the two-part sixth-season finale "The House Meets the Mouse". Just one year after Full House ended, Cameron became Cameron Bure when she married hockey pro Vareli Bure. She appeared in a few TV movies as well as an episode of Boy Meets World, and then took a few years off from acting to focus on her family (she has three grown children). Doris Roberts was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Ann (Meltzer) and Larry Green. She was raised in New York, and took her stepfather's surname.

In October 2023, Stamos released his memoir, "If You Would Have Told Me," which chronicled his rise to fame, his time on "Full House," and the sexual abuse he experienced as a child. This is a list of characters from the TV sitcom Full House. In December 2016, Variety reported that the show was renewed for a third season.

Michelle Elizabeth Tanner (portrayed by twins Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen), is Danny and Pam's youngest daughter. Danny is more overprotective of Michelle than the other girls. Michelle was just a baby when Pam died, so she hardly remembers her mom. Jesse and Joey's misadventures in taking care of her when she was a baby provided a great deal of humor. Once Michelle started to grow up, she became the focus of more of the show's storylines.

That the Los Angeles Lakers want him to be the team's foot specialist. After a few months Steve quits his job so that he can date DJ.[6] Steve proposes to D.J. In season five, and get married in the series finale in a triple wedding with Stephanie and Jimmy, Kimmy, and Fernando. Joey has held various jobs in addition to his work as a stand-up comic. For a while during seasons two and three, Joey and Jesse run an advertising business, J&J Creative Services, in which they compose jingles for television and radio commercials.

Barber got an English degree from Whittier College and interned at the United Nations in Switzerland. During an interview with People, the actor said that she wasn't fond of the entertainment business and the "unpredictability of the profession," which is why she took a break. Saget's family later released a statement to Entertainment Tonight about the actor's cause of death. In November 2017, Saget revealed that he got engaged to TV host Kelly Rizzo after popping the question while the couple was watching "Stranger Things." She competed on season 22 of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and got eliminated shortly before the semifinals.

Since she hasn't been dating Jimmy for that long, she doesn't want to put pressure on him for being the father, and throwing him into a lifelong commitment so soon in their relationship. They are able to make embryos and Kimmy volunteers to be the surrogate mother. At the end of season four Kimmy gives birth to a baby girl, and Jimmy proposes to Stephanie which she accepts. Stephanie names the baby Danielle "Danni" Jo, named after her dad and D.J.

He was found in a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida. A preliminary autopsy report released the day after his death said there was "no evidence of drug use or foul play." The actor also starred on "Fuller House" and directed six episodes. After "Full House" wrapped, the twins starred in several movies and shows together, like "Two of a Kind," "So Little Time," "Holiday in the Sun," and "New York Minute." Don't expect to see them on the big screen any time soon, though. The actor has two children from her previous relationships.

John has two younger sisters, Janeen and Alaina, both school teachers. Acted as a maternal figure to her younger sisters, like when she took care of Michelle when Jesse, Joey, and Stephanie all had chicken pox. However, as they grew older, their fighting dissipated and they learned to comfort one another in the moments they missed their mother the most. Was Danny's firstborn daughter and sometimes went by the nickname "Deej." As the oldest, it wasn't surprising that, at times, there was tension between Danny and D.J.

Aside from acting, Weinger is now a producer and writer.

In the season four finale Kimmy gives birth to their baby girl, Danielle. In season five Steve, Jimmy, and Fernando all go in to buy a local sandwich shop when the owner Uncle Monty retires. Jimmy and Stephanie get married in the series finale, and the two are expecting their second child together. She is often known to be a poor student in school, and had copied D.J.'s homework during most of the early seasons. (who had fallen asleep on her boyfriend Steve's couch while watching a movie in his apartment). Joey quits his job in season six's "Radio Days," after he becomes disgruntled with his boss Mr. Strowbridge's wife as his co-host.

Bob Saget

As babies, the children were played by Daniel and Kevin Renteria, and in season six, the roles of the twins were succeeded by Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit. The last main character added was Steve Hale, who was D.J.'s boyfriend in seasons six and seven. She leads Stephanie into dangerous or not-so-smart situations. Stephanie gets involved in a few wild, irresponsible things because of Gia, such as going to a make-out party planned by her in the season eight episode "Making Out is Hard to Do", and (almost) smoking in "Fast Friends".

Like Joey, Coulier loves to make people laugh in real life.

In season five Fernando, Jimmy and Steve all go in to buy a local sandwich shop when the owner Uncle Monty retires. Ramona Gibbler (portrayed by Soni Nicole Bringas) is the daughter of Kimmy Gibbler and her ex-husband/fiancé/husband Fernando. She is not thrilled when she has to move into the Tanner family home and change schools. Ramona and Jackson had a bad history with each other, yet they have improved since Ramona moved in. Ramona quickly befriends one of the popular girls in school named Lola Wong and briefly dates Jackson's friend Bobby Popko. Ramona later starts dating a boy named Ethan whom she met when he delivered for her.

Jackson auditioned for a small part in the school play originally just to get out of gym class but discovered that he can sing, and gets the lead role instead. Steven "Steve" Hale (portrayed by Scott Weinger) is D.J.'s first steady boyfriend. In the season five episode "Sisters in Crime", Weinger first guest-stars as Steve Peters, who is D.J.'s date to a movie that she ends up taking Michelle and Stephanie to. Weinger returns to the series as a regular character in the season six premiere "Come Fly With Me", in which D.J. Introduces him to her family as Steve Hale (establishing Weinger's previous role of "Steve Peters" to have been a separate character). He is known for having a healthy appetite, and often eats at the Tanners' when he visits.

Where is Lauren Wirkus from Summer House now?

In 2019, she welcomed her first child, Dean, and little brother Cole joined the family in March 2022. Ashley was another Season 1 on Summer House, although she did make a couple appearances during Season 2. In between the seasons, she and and her husband moved to California, making it a little tough to show up in the Hamptons every weekend. That said, some friends do stick around — never leave us, Lindsay Hubbard! — and even show up in the colder seasons, thanks to Winter House. Scott Eric Weinger (pronounced wine-gur) was born in New York, New York, on October 5, 1975, to Babs Weinger, a teacher, and Elliott Weinger, an orthopedic surgeon.

Below is a list of actors and actresses that are or were part of the cast of the American drama television series House. And as Dave himself puts it, this reunion will be one for the books since the cast are more than just co-stars—after all these years, they're practically family. “There’s a lot of moms bringing their little girls — it’s such a wonderful full circle moment to see these moms who were like, ‘I grew up with you guys, and now my daughters are growing up with you on ‘Fuller House,’” Andrea Barber said. Several stars of the classic sitcom appeared at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut over the weekend and told TODAY they’d be game for doing a third iteration of the series.

In season five, Steve, Jimmy, and Fernando all go in together to buy a local sandwich shop when the owner, Uncle Monty, retires. And they get married in the series finale, along with Stephanie and Jimmy, and Kimmy and Fernando, in a triple wedding. In Fuller House, Stephanie volunteers to give up her life in London to move back into her childhood home to help take care of her sister's three kids. Kimmy volunteers to move in as well much to Stephanie's dismay but she soon puts her abrasive feelings aside, and becomes friends with her.

He is also the one whose house Michelle runs away to in "The Devil Made Me Do It" later that season (Tahj Mowry's real-life sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry appear in that episode in a dual role as Teddy's older sister). He moves to Amarillo, Texas in the season six episode "The Long Goodbye". Teddy returns in the season seven episode "Be Your Own Best Friend", when his father's job moves him back to San Francisco. He and Michelle even consider trying to be boyfriend and girlfriend in third grade in the season eight episode "Dateless in San Francisco", but find that it is no fun for children their age.

Is similar to her father Danny and becomes head of the household and her sister Stephanie and childhood best friend Kimmy helped look after her sons and Kimmy's daughter. Matt and Steve fight for D.J.'s affection, but both end up dating other people after D.J.

As shown in several episodes (including in his first appearance), he is also shown to be a very talented singer. In the scene in which he is first introduced, Derek says he blends in with his surroundings. Derek reappears in the series finale of Fuller House when Danny and Joey try to find someone to officiate the triple wedding.

Marla Sokoloff was only 12 when she played Stephanie Tanner's infamous bad girl BFF, Gia. A fan favorite, she returned for an episode of Fuller House in the second season, reprising her character, and hilariously encouraging Stephanie to smoke cigarettes again. While he reprised his role on Fuller House, these days, a large portion of Weinger's work takes place behind the camera.

Alquist is the only 3DCP company that has the knowledge to work directly with local city officials, passcode and permitting, and successfully print a home using multiple printers and/or materials. Italian house 3D printing company WASP built ‘Gaia’, a 3D printed hut made from a mix of concrete and mud-based material. The 215 square foot structure took 10 days to complete, though the total time when accounting for all the furnishings and additions would be longer. The most extraordinary part is that the hut cost just $1,000 in materials to build, though this doesn’t factor in labor and other costs. 3D printed houses can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $400,000 depending on the house’s location, size, amenities, and materials used.

Overall, 3D printing offers a versatile and cost-effective way to create complex and customized objects with a high degree of accuracy and precision. The cost of 3D printing varies depending on the size and complexity of the object, the materials used, and the type of 3D printer used. Despite the many advantages of 3D printed houses, there are several challenges that must be addressed before they become a mainstream housing solution.

How Much Does a 3D Printed House Cost?

Additionally, the materials used in 3D printing are limited, and there are concerns about the durability and longevity of 3D printed structures. The cost of building a 3D printed house varies depending on factors such as the size of the house, location, materials used, and labor costs. However, the cost of constructing a 3D printed house is generally lower than traditional construction methods. 3D printing technology has come a long way in recent years, and it’s now possible to 3D print entire houses. This innovative construction method has the potential to revolutionize the housing industry, providing affordable and sustainable housing solutions. However, one of the biggest questions surrounding 3D printed houses is how much they cost.

How Much Does It Cost To Build A 3D Printed House?

Reasons to Be Cheerful takes a closer look at the science and innovation behind the 3D printer creating these innovative buildings. When you imagine a 3D-printed home, you probably picture a boxy concrete structure. As 3D printing's popularity has grown in the construction industry — thanks to its efficiency when it comes to time, energy and cost — carbon-intensive concrete has become the go-to building material. But it can be used for a variety of other creations and already has been used for a range of things, from boats to defense department structures. In the past, the university showed off a 25-foot boat created by the first printer. Upcoming projects with the new printer include a 50-foot boat and houses to serve homeless people, Dagher said.

“You put concrete material in the top of an essentially an extrusion machine, and squish it out into a very specific shape. We're going to lay it down layer by layer and kind of go around the outside and the inside to create all the normal walls and columns and beams that we would have in a typical concrete house,” Burris said. In what is set to become the “largest-scale development of 3D-printed homes globally,” Danish architecture studio BIG and American 3D-printing firm ICON have successfully completed a full-sized model home.

When 3D printed using the right mix, concrete walls can last for over 100 years. Furthermore, 3D printed homes can be designed to be disaster-resistant, meaning that they can withstand hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. There is not a lot of design freedom in conventional construction, either due to the lack of skilled labor or the limitations in traditional building techniques.

University of Nantes researchers designed and constructed a full-size single-family house via construction 3D printer in France at a cost of $232,000 in 2018. Which was twenty percent less than what a similar sized building would have cost to construct via conventional means. Some real estate marketplaces like Zillow, or some homeownership assistance programs like Habitat for Humanity, can sell 3D-printed houses.

The entire habitat is supposed to take five years to complete and aims to provide an affordable housing solution for the working population in the area. For example, the cost for 1 square meter of a wall using traditional construction methods is approximately $75, whereas with the Apis Cor house 3D printer it is only $27. Located in the Greater Porto area of Portugal's second-largest city, the unnamed 80 sq m (roughly 860 sq ft) two-bedroom residence was built using COBOD's BOD2 printer, which was also used on Europe's largest 3D-printed building. According to COBOD, Havelar's houses can be produced for €1,500 per sq m, which it contrasts favorably with the Porto average of €3,104 (around US$3,330) per square meter.

Aside from the setup and breakdown of the equipment, human oversight is necessary to ensure there are no technical hiccups. Specialists must be on-site to cut holes for second-fix installments, such as plumbing, electrical wiring, doors and windows. Technological advancements that replace the jobs of skilled workers can result in it being harder for people to find work. As well as that, the finer finishing touches that craftsmen can bring to construction are lost when relying upon machinery.

3D printing specialists, as well as companies that make 3D printers like this, can be hard to come by and therefore tend to cost a pretty penny. The 3D printing method will likely become more accessible to the common public in the near future, but for now, you’ll need to confer with the experts. Europe’s first 3D printed office, The BOD, only took 22 days on their first attempt, and this was reduced to just 3 days when COBOD reperformed the construction 3D printing of the building as a test 2 years later. On the other end of the scale are the small size houses that have been making headlines and have successfully been 3D printed at a fraction of conventional costs.

There’s also the customizable option to add a 700 square foot extra residence, or AUD, to the property that will consist of two bedrooms and a bathroom. Mighty Buildings and Palari Group plan to develop 15 homes by 2022, each consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a terrace, and a swimming pool within 1,450 square feet of space. For the full story covering the world’s largest 3D printed building, click here. When it comes to designing the floorplan or blueprint of your 3D home, a designer will create the basic blueprint, and that blueprint will be sent to the modeling software so the printer is prepared to do its work. There are many ways you can design a 3D printed home to fit your lifestyle needs. The 3D printer then reads these instructions and builds the object layer by layer, using a variety of techniques such as extrusion, powder bed fusion, or vat photopolymerization.

The Chicon House covers a modest 650-sq ft. (60 m2) area and has two rooms and all the essential amenities. ICON used their VULCAN 3D printer specifically developed for 3D printed houses to construct this project. Also, construction 3D printers can finish a home’s foundations in less than a few days, while traditional construction methods take several weeks or even months. Concrete 3D printing in the construction industry helps save time, effort, and material compared to traditional construction methods. It’s important to note, though, that 3D printers are not yet capable of creating a fully functional house. The home takes the form of a simple single-story residence defined by the telltale ribbed walls that show that it has been constructed with a 3D printer.
